Why Purley's Edwardian Homes Deserve Bold Interiors

Purley, Sanderstead, and the surrounding areas of South London are home to some of the most beautiful Edwardian properties in the capital. High ceilings, generous bay windows, original cornicing, picture rails, and fireplaces that anchor every room. These houses were built with craft and care, designed to impress and to last.

And yet, so many of them have been neutralised. Magnolia walls, beige carpets, and safe furniture choices that ignore everything the architecture is trying to say. It's like putting a beautiful painting in a cheap frame. The potential is there, but it's being suppressed.

Edwardian homes were designed for drama. Those high ceilings are begging for a statement pendant light. The original fireplaces want to be framed by rich, dark walls that make them sing. The bay windows are stages, waiting for a window seat upholstered in velvet or a carefully styled vignette.

Working with period properties is one of my greatest pleasures. The bones are already extraordinary. My job is to let them speak. That means respecting the architecture while bringing a contemporary confidence to the finishes. Deep greens, warm golds, botanical wallpapers, and layered textures that feel both timeless and fresh.

If you live in an Edwardian home in Purley or South London and feel like your interiors aren't living up to the architecture, I'd love to talk. Sometimes all it takes is a new perspective to unlock a house's full potential.
