Stepping into this terraced house in Addiscombe felt like walking into a space frozen in time. The homeowners, both healthcare professionals, had spent years dedicated to their work, leaving little time to refresh their surroundings. Heavy leather furniture, muted curtains, and a general darkness masked the property's true potential. The brief was clear: breathe life back into the open-plan living and dining areas and create a vibrant sanctuary where they could finally entertain in style.
We moved away from the shadows and embraced a bold, high-contrast palette built around deep teal and sun-drenched mustard yellow. The chimney breast was transformed with a rich teal accent, providing a dramatic backdrop for an ornate gold mirror and the original fireplace, which we restored to its former glory, complete with a crackling live fire. Plush mustard curtains and a matching mid-century armchair catch the light and radiate warmth throughout the day.
A luxurious navy velvet sofa provides the main seating, while carefully selected mid-century teak consoles offer a nod to timeless craftsmanship. Above it all, a magnificent brass and gold chandelier adorned with multi-coloured crystals replaced the dated spotlights. It's the room's jewellery, scattering playful light across the ceiling and grounding the open-plan space with a touch of old-world opulence. Fringed floor lamps cast a soft, ambient glow for intimate evening gatherings.
The dining area continues the curated maximalism. A bespoke jungle-theme velvet tablecloth transforms the table into an exotic focal point, while evocative elephant artwork and the view through to a lush, manicured garden blur the lines between indoors and out. Tall dried pampas grass in a minimalist white vase adds height and organic texture, completing the atmosphere the clients craved: lively yet serene.
This wasn't just a renovation. It was about giving back a sense of home to two people who spend their lives caring for others.

We spend our lives caring for others. Mahdi gave us a home that finally cares for us. It's unrecognisable from what it was.
